Wow, how fast is this show going? It’s 9:45 and they’ve already given out all the acting, writing, and directing awards, haven’t they? Quick run down:
BEST ACTORS were Bryan Cranston and Jim Parsons. BEST ACTRESSES were Kyra Sedgwick and Edie Falco. SUPPORTING ACTORS were Aaron Paul and Eric Stonestree. SUPPORTING ACTRESSES were Archie Punjabi and Jane Lynch.
SURPRISE: Sedgwick. Love here, and was just thinking how it’s almost annoying how they give her a cursory nod every year but not much attention - then BAM. Maybe next year, Good Wife. But congrats to Punjabi for her break through role.
SURPRISE II: Jim Parsons. Deserved, but surprising (at least a little) in a crowded field. Out with the era of the OCD detective and the NBC stars. In with the era of The Nerd?
SURPRISE III: Top Chef winning…anything. Well, hey, bon apetit.
NOT SURPRISING: Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul combo and Jane Lynch. If I read one more place how “This is Aaron Paul’s year” or “If Jane Lynch doesn’t win there’s no justice” I was going to kick my TV in. Just kidding, I’d never kick an innocent TV.
As for the best shows, well, they’ve got like an hour left. I guess variety is still for grabs. Will there be some boring Conan-Jay jokes (MAN would I love the person intro-ing that category to juxtapose it to the Haitian earthquake and other events of the year…) ? Will Jon Stewart beat out Colbert? Should Colbert put himself in for best comedy actor next year since he’s playing a role? Hm, interesting thought.
Jimmy Fallon is doing a good job. He may have found his niche. Best dress so far may well be Tina Fey’s.
Stay tuned.
