“How to Train Your Dragon” pulled a remarkable feat and landed back on the top spot, in its third week of release. The film which had dropped down the chart previously, shot back up with a $20 million weekend take. This weekend was admittedly down 10% from last year, with the poorer performance being attributed to underwhelming debuts. “How to Train Your Dragon” is now on $159 million. At no.2 the sublime superhero flick “Kick-Ass” came in short of expectations on its first weekend, taking $19.5 million. The film had previously been expected to do around $30 million this weekend and was many pundits choice for first place. Hopefully good word of mouth will help it stay in the top 10 for a decent stretch, so this disappointing opening can be recovered.

“Date Night” slipped to third on its second week of release, taking $17.3 million. The comedy now has a decent $49 million total, it could go onto turn at least $70 million domestically. Another new release, the remake “Death at a Funeral” was in fourth with $17 million. The film has received mixed reviews, and whilst the debuting figures aren’t disastrous, they were lower than was expected. Much depends on next weekend for the movie, if it sinks fast it’s in trouble, but if it can hang onto a top five placing it might fare okay. “Clash of the Titans” took its total to $133 million this weekend past, placing fifth with $15.8 million.
