“Clash of the Titans” won out the Easter weekend, but with smaller figures than studio heads might have hoped for. The fantasy remake (also being released in 3-D) took an estimated $62 million over the weekend; about $8 million shy of most studio projections. The film has been privy to some extraordinarily mixed reviews so a next weekend drop off is expected, meaning that Titans will probably end up making around $140 million in the domestic market at most.
Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married Too” also opened wide and chugged just into second place, despite universally poor reviews. The film grabbed $30 million, but given the pattern of Perry films at the box-office, the drop off next weekend will be massive. $60-65 million is probably the full extent of its domestic chances. In third the well received DreamWorks movie “How to Train Your Dragon” dropped two places on its second weekend, taking its total to $92 million over the course of last weekend. It made $29 million. The Miley Cyrus vehicle “The Last Song” was the third big release of the week, and as with the other two, critics were not kind. Still, the film managed a robust $16 million, though that might not be enough on the long run if it slumps next weekend. It placed fourth.
