Is it wrong for a tv person to write about shows she doesn’t watch? I was just thinking about some tv shows that started a while ago, have gained some buzz, or at least, haven’t been cancelled yet, but haven’t collided with my eye balls. Here’s some thoughts on these shows:
Accidentally On Purpose I guess I’ve seen several minutes of this show. I never stopped to watch a whole episode because, well, CBS sitcoms and I usually don’t mix - exception: Big Bang Theory which I love. Jenna Elfman plays a woman who does something spontaneous which creates an instant lifelong bond with a man who is unlike her. Sounds familiar…What I do think is interesting that both Elfman and her character are expecting. Maybe I will check in at some point to see how big she’s gotten. Best wishes, Jenna, and Godspeed.
What I prefer: Big Bang Theory
Mercy I think what turned me off to this show was the fact the lead character was a nurse returned from Iraq- which is serious business- but the show didn’t look too serious, gritty, or like it was going to push itself that hard. Plus there was a love triangle that I was going to have to sit through and that just wasn’t of interest. I also kind of have an aversion to stories about characters whose “troubled” past are promoted so highly. Just looked like a hammer hit over the heard “She’s broken.” Whatevs.
What I prefer: House. I have never been an “every week” viewer of House but if I’m going to watch someone abravise in the medical profession, I might as well watch this one.
Fringe To be honest, I have no idea what this show is even about. I guess it’s like an X-Files type deal where this group is looking into some phenomenon or something? There’s probably an overarching conspiracy. Sometimes Leonard Nimoy is on. That’s about all I’ve got.
What I prefer: The Middle. Get it, instead of being on The Fringe, I’m in The Middle? Get it?
Glee Arguably the most buzzed about show of the season, Glee has left me cold from the start. Really, the whole thing just seemed a little too David Kelley circa 1999 to me. A sensitive teacher, his eccentric kids, all the angst and pain of being an outsider in a middle class, mainly white high school. Yeah. I know Jane Lynch is fantasic, and all, but I can watch her in movies.
What I prefer: my Boston Public bootlegs
The Vampire Diaries. Not a fan of the vamps. Not a fan of teen soaps. Didn’t seem like a reason for me to tune in.
What I prefer: Tomato juice
The Good Wife I can’t say I’m a huge Julianna Marguiles fan. I sort of hated Carol Hathaway by the time the character left ER. I was interested in that other law show she was on when her kid was missing, but we never found out what happened there. Now she’s a wronged and publically humilated lawyer- which is an interesting hook. But, eh, I don’t know, maybe the ultimate issue I had was that CBS has alot of ensemble crime shows on and I don’t really dig any of them. This just seemed like more of the same.
