Box Office Update: “Witch Mountain” races to no.1.

Race to Witch Mountain opened at no.1 this week scoring a solid $25 million, opening pretty much in line with Disney’s predictions. The adventure picture starring Dwayne Johnston has received mixed critical feedback but in a weekend in which the Box-Office dropped in comparison to last year it was the clear and decisive winner.
Watchmen tumbled nearly 60% on its second week; the superhero flick which has also suffered took mega bucks last week but dropped to a more ordinary $18 million over the last four days. It now has $87 million domestic Box-Office total at this juncture. At no.3 a horror remake debuted, this time a retooling of Wes Craven’s The Last House on the Left. The picture has garnered wildly unbalanced reviews with many heaping praise upon it, and other condemning it for the vicious violence depicted. Its taken $15 million. In fourth Taken took $7 million now officially having been inside the top 5 for seven weeks, only the 12th movie this decade to do so.
At no.5 Madea Goes to Jail scored $5.13 million for an $84 million whilst in sixth Slumdog Millionaire netted a further $5 million to take its domestic haul to over $133 million. The film which arrives on DVD in a fortnight continues to do solid business after 15 weeks of release and multiple Oscar wins.
Paul Blart: Mall Cop took it’s total to just under $!40 million at no.7 a further $£.1 was added to the bank this weekend. He’s Just Not That Into You was at no.8 with $2.9 million for an $89 million total, whilst Coraline scored $2.7 million enough to place her just south of $70 million. Finally at no.10, new sex comedy Miss March enjoyed a poor financial showing to couple with its dismal critical reaction. It managed just $2.5 million and will likely be out of most theaters by next weekend.
